How it works

From source files to finished batch

01

Import supported images

Add JPEG, PNG, or WebP files. Unsupported and damaged files are rejected before the batch starts.

02

Pick one of six output formats

Use JPEG, PNG, or WebP for publishing, BMP for uncompressed RGB, TIFF for single-page RGBA, or ICO for an icon within 256 × 256 pixels. TIFF and ICO previews use PNG from the same pixels.

03

Convert and export

The browser decodes every file and encodes it again in the selected format, then prepares separate downloads or one ZIP.

Common uses

Built for everyday image work

PNG to JPEG

Flatten transparency onto a chosen background for systems that expect JPEG.

JPEG to WebP

Create smaller web-focused files when your publishing stack supports WebP.

WebP to PNG

Create a broadly editable lossless file when an application cannot import WebP.

Worth knowing

Keep the output predictable

Transparency

JPEG has no alpha channel. Transparent pixels are filled with the selected background color before encoding.

Metadata

Canvas conversion usually removes EXIF, GPS, and other metadata. The output keeps pixels, not the original metadata container.

Input and output boundaries

BMP and ICO import use browser decoding. HEIC/HEIF is decoded locally to its first still image; AVIF depends on browser decoding. TIFF is output-only. Animated GIF, SVG, HEIC output, and AVIF output are not offered. BMP/TIFF exports are uncompressed and limited to 16 million pixels.

FAQ

Image Format Converter questions

Does this only rename the file extension?

No. The browser decodes the source pixels, draws them to a canvas, and encodes a new file with the selected MIME type.

Will animation be preserved?

No. Animated GIF is not accepted, avoiding the misleading result of silently exporting only one frame.

Why might WebP be unavailable?

The editor tests your browser encoder at runtime. WebP is disabled if the browser cannot actually create a WebP blob.
